She was a sports reporter for some of the biggest media outlets across the nation. She spent nearly a decade in the Washington Post. The Washington Post covering football and basketball as well as multiple Olympics and Grand Slam Tennis. Nichols was hired by ESPN at the beginning of 2004. She stayed for nine years there, earning 2 Emmy Awards. She also featured on the most watched shows on ESPN including SportsCenter and NFL Countdown. Also, she was an anchor for Monday Night Football on the network. Her next move was to CNN as well as Turner Sports. Unguarded, a show that she produced and hosted, was telecast every one week at CNN International. Over a billion viewers watched the show worldwide. Nichols reported on NBA television broadcasts for TNT which included the regular season, playoffs and all-star broadcasts. Her duties on behalf of TBS also included golf and baseball coverage, as well as Final Four broadcasts by CBS. It was only the second occasion in the 42-year history of TBS that a woman was nominated out of more than 200 nominations.
